When all else fails...

Ever feel like you were part of a train wreck and you missed seeing the train coming because you were too busy looking on the other side of the tracks? Well apparently that's what I was doing instead of paying attention to my 'gut' instinct. Someday I'll learn.
Anyway on to more uplifting things in Life. Hubby tried to uplift my spirits so he purchased these two magazines for me. There are some fine hat patterns as well as a handsome man's cardigan pattern in knitsimple. Sometimes he can be a true Knight (I'll overlook him forgetting our anniversary last month)

Crocheting is not my forte but occasionally I enjoy being a hooker ;). I designed this hat upon request from Chem Girl DD. It's a hit!

In spite of recent events I take comfort in friends and our pets. Do we have too many pets? Probably in some peoples' eyes but I gotta tell ya, they make me laugh and they make me feel loved. Here's Mr. B on the loveseat and ya know what? I don't care. He's a mischievous rascal from time to time but I'll admit that his love never ends. So what if he's on the loveseat. The cover gets washed every couple of days and he's our dog and it's our furniture...hrmph!

Of course I will not overlook the spoiled one, Miss Gypsy. She is a Yorkie/maltese and may I just say, she has that Yorkie terrier personality down to a science. She's not as fond of the camera as Mr. Bettis who is not at all camera shy. It took a few tries to get this pic but she indulged her dear owner.
Think I'll go thru the stash and look for some yarn for DH a sweater. ssshhhh.....don't tell him ;)
Our weekend is rather quiet. What's on your weekend agenda?

Life's little light

The days are getting longer therefore shedding light on Life itself. Trust me, it's been quite an eye-opener.
On to my knitting.
I dyed this yarn a sunny yellow and cast on another shawl. It's nearing the finish line and I can't wait to block it. It's mine. All mine.

I wanted to start a sweater and I dug in the stash. Found 2 skeins of Melody Superwash and a few skeins of Knitpicks Gloss Fingering. Took my size US 6 needles and cast on. This sweater is a secret so I can't mention the intended person but I know it will be deeply appreciated.
One of Life's little eye-opener is my gift knitting.
I'm taking a new look at it. Some people just don't either a)appreciate the knitting or b) don't have a clue on the countless hours choosing the pattern, yarn and time knitting the gift.
I've taken notice to this over the years and have zapped a few from the gift knitting list. I must admit this allows more time to knit for those who appreciate the hard work and a little time to knit for self :).

Another of Life's little eye-openers are my pets. While Mr. Bettis can be quite a handfull at times he truly brings me joy (please don't spread this around).
My pets always greet me as if I'm a new friend. They're a happy bunch (sometimes a bit too happy but hey, you gotta take it as they give it).
If Mr. Bettis appreciated my knitting a little more, he'd get a handknit sweater but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Instead I'll cast on for those who appreciate handknits or for self :).

So how do you decide who gets your handknit items?

Wee Ones

It was 82 degrees yesterday and the sun was shining. A rare sight this year but there it was in all it's shining glory. Where was I? In bed with a severe allergic reaction to new meds. I'm feeling a bit better today and guess what? It's raining! Again! This must be the most rain in the month of May/June that we have had in years.

The other day I was watering the "homemade" garden. I know, you're questioning why I would water the plants when we've had so much rain. But the bags are not open enough in the top to catch the rain. There are tomato plants in these bags. I looked in the bag getting ready to water it when I noticed a mass of twigs, grass etc. I was quietly blaming resident squirrel.

Upon inspection I found a nest. A little Jenny Wren nest.

I took a picture of one lonely wren egg. I hope it survives. I see Mrs. Jenny Wren swooping in and out of the bag so I know she's taking good care of her little one. Now if only, Mr. Bettis would keep his big mouth shut when he sees her going in and out of her home.
That dog doesn't miss a trick around here.

The knitting mojo has returned with a venegence. I'm casting on projects right and left.
I am smitten with Noro. I don't particularly care for the feel of the yarn but.....oh my......the colors. I an absolutely in love with color and this yarn has captured my love of color.
I have been wanting a log cabin Noro afghan and I hit the stash to start one. I will need to haunt online shops for Noro sales. So if you hear of any good sales, please let me know.
I've also started two shawls and now I'm crocheting two preemie hats for Hubby's co-worker who is the proud grandfather of twins. Unfortunately they have come into the world a wee bit early. The little girl weighs in at 2.7 lbs and the little boy is 2.0 lbs at 26 weeks. I know the mother and father will appreciate the wee hats.
