Random Sorts

It's been a very s-l-o-w week which has only put me in a funky mood.

Mr. Bettis has re-discovered his talent of head-butting the storm door to get outside. Now if he could only learn to get back inside. I'm certain we'll be purchasing another door latch soon.
Miss Gypsy follows him and Miss Molly stands guard at the door.
The spring/summer activities have returned, Mr. Squirrel and Wascally Wabbit make their rounds every day. Occasionally the bear and deer show up as well. It's going to be another l-o-n-g summer *sigh*.

The DH decided to do some patch work on the living room walls. He was in construction for years and yet when he does work here, he fails to use plastic coverings.
I wish he fixed this a few years ago before I painted the walls green. Of course we no longer have any of the green paint left and we couldn't match it. Out came the bucket of cream paint and that was the designated job of the weekend.

I appointed myself supervisor.

Oh Happy Day

It sprinkled here yesterday but by afternoon it was gorgeous. Blue sky and the big yellow ball in the sky. We were perplexed at first as we weren't sure if the sky was falling but we finally discovered it was the sun! LOL
Our eldest daughter was born on our wedding anniversary 23 yrs ago and we celebrated her birthday a bit early by combining it with Father's Day. Barbequed chicken and homemade mac/cheese was the menu choice by the daughter. Fruit, corn, green beans, shrimp and of course, cake completed the picnic.

My dad on the left and the DH on the right. My dad recieved Father's Day wishes from myself and my two sisters. So 3 out of 4 is good.
The DH also received phone calls from 3 of our 4 kids. The eldest son and both daughters called to wish him a happy Father's Day. It made his day. YAY!!!!

We purchased paint for the bathroom a month ago. The DH decided to paint it yesterday. Don't even ask why. This man has an uncanny knack for picking holidays to tackle major jobs. Like the one year when he decided to strip our wooden kitchen cabinets 5 days prior to the Thanksgiving feast which was to be hosted in our home!
Or the year I was traveling with my teddy bear business and he decided to paint the entire inside of the house one weekend. With 2 dogs, 3 kids and laundry. Blew his wee mind. Welcome to my world:).
He grumbled about the paint color and I must admit it looked a bit like puke green. But after it was on the walls and dried it seem to improve. I rather like it now.
It was a good day!

p.s. The youngest DD called and chattered like a magpie. That kid will be talking for weeks when she returns:).

Spring Into Action

It's Spring and I needed a pick-me-up so I convinced the DH to paint the bedroom. It was a dull drab taupe and I wanted something cheerful.
I found this color and fell in love with the color. It is a soft yellow and the vintage flowered bed spread that I purchased a while back matches perfectly.

Mr. Bettis swiped his tail on the wall and he threatened to tie a paint brush to his tail so he could help paint. Gypsy ended up with paint on her head and I have yet to figure out how that happened. Unless of course, Mr. Bettis swiped her head with his painted tail.
The end result of the room is pretty and cheerful and I like it.

I still have "Startitis". I found this pattern to use up left over sock yarn. It started out as a pram blanket but it is going to end up as a rectangular shawl for yours' truly.

This project has been started many times only to be scrapped in the end. The sock yarn blankie with Square #1 finished.

We'll see how far I get on this one. I've seen pictures and I really like the finished look of it. So......here I go again.

As if I have nothing else to knit, I made these to celebrate Spring. Talk about gratifying knitting, I love 'em. They're quick and fun and were made yesterday afternoon.
I plan to gift them to a few little girls that I spoil from time to time.

This yarn took a dunk and it's mine. All mine. Not sure what to make with it but I like the color.
I'll ponder this one for awhile.

I haven't forgotten you, my blogging friends. I still read blogs even if I don't comment. It's just a busy time this year with Son #2's wedding, DD's events and her upcoming graduation. So please bear with me.

Surprises!

We celebrated the youngest DD's birthday yesterday with family. She turns 17 yrs old on Friday, Aug 1. Where has the time gone?
It is tradition for this child/young adult to bake her own birthday cake. She looks forward to baking her own cake.
This year she made a two layer cake. The bottom layer was chocolate and the top layer was vanilla tinted pink. She put a chocolate filling between the layers and topped it with buttercream frosting and chocolate sprinkles. It was very tasty.

Much to her surprise, she received her CPH off the needles and finished. I had this blocked and ready to be wrapped two days prior to her birthday party. She thought I was making it for her sister and prompted me to cast on for her CPH. So I had to dig out pink wool and appear to be casting on for another CPH.
She loves it.

I also found clear Skechers for her and me. I got a bargain with these. They were on sale for $15.00 and if you typed in a code they were only $10.00 each with free shipping. My kind of shoes. Believe it or not they are very comfy. I was a bit surprised.
They really show off the handknitted socks. I had another pair of socks on the move for her (imagine that?) but they didn't make it off the needles. I knew she liked these so I gave them to her.
She loved them too.
She also received Space books, Planet earth game and some scrapbooking stuff. (she's big into space)

I woke up this morning to a note from her sitting by the coffee maker. The note said, "thank you mom for a wonderful and fun birthday." What a nice surprise!
